On the surface, it may seem like tinted windows serve the sole purpose of looking great. Every year, almost 5 million Americans are treated for skin cancer, and having your windows tinted can prevent you from becoming one of them.

UV Rays

Skin cancer starts with exposure to UV rays, and if you have ever been in a car during the day, you've been exposed to them. The two types of UV rays you will encounter in your vehicle are:

  1. UVA Rays The damage from these rays is cumulative and adds up over time. UVA rays are usually the culprit behind skin cancer. These rays are responsible for long term damage to your skin. The damage from UVA rays takes time to become noticeable and is responsible for wrinkles and accelerates the aging process.
  2. UVB Rays In contrast, UVB rays show immediate damage in the form of sun burns and blisters.

Depending on your state, there is a legal limit as to how tinted your windows can be.
